371 Tree Planting
New Trees Planted Along 371, 1st Street and In the Park
In future years, Hackensack residents and visitors will be able to cool off in the shade of more than 30 new trees planted in May and June of this year. The expanded tree canopy is the result of work done by dozens of people from area businesses and organizations coming together with a common goal.
The City of Hackensack and the Hackensack Game Changers applied for and won two separate grants from the state - a MNDOT grant which paid for the 19 trees planted along Highway 371, and the MN DNR 2025 ReLeaf grant which paid for trees, mulch and contractor labor to plant 14 trees along 1st Street and in the city park.
Under the direction of certified arborist Charley Wagner and landscaping contractor Derek Sumption, local volunteers showed up on May 11th (pictured below) and June 4th to help plant, stake, flag and mulch the trees. Since planting, City of Hackensack Public Works personnel, Rob Triplet and Colten Hicks, have been watering the trees nearly every day it hasn’t rained to ensure they stay healthy.
An event held at Rendezvous Brewing on Arbor Day in April recruited volunteers, and raised awareness and money for future tree planting and care.
