Help Protect Our Water Resources During Current Drought Conditions

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has placed the Mississippi-Headwaters Watershed, including the City of Hackensack, in the Drought Warning Response Phase due to ongoing dry conditions and declining water resources.

The City encourages all residents and businesses to voluntarily conserve water and reduce non-essential water use to help preserve our local water supply.

Outdoor Water Conservation Tips
Water lawns and gardens only when necessary and avoid overwatering.
Water early in the morning or late in the evening to reduce evaporation.
Consider using drought-tolerant or native plants that require less watering.
Check irrigation systems for leaks or broken sprinkler heads.
Delay filling swimming pools and limit power washing or unnecessary outdoor cleaning.
Indoor Water Conservation Tips

The average Minnesotan uses approximately 52 gallons of water per person each day. Small changes can make a big difference:

Take shorter showers.
Fix leaking faucets and running toilets.
Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
Install water-efficient fixtures and appliances when possible.
Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth or shaving.

By working together, we can reduce water demand, protect our lakes and groundwater, and ensure a reliable water supply for essential community needs.

The City of Hackensack appreciates your cooperation and encourages everyone to conserve water until drought conditions improve. For additional information, please click on the link below https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/waters/watermgmt_section/appropriations/water-conservation-residents.html
