NOTICE OF CANDIDATE FILING DATES

 

The following City of Hackensack offices will be voted for at the State General Election held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Candidates may begin filing for these offices on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, and continue until Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The office of the City Clerk will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 for the final day of candidate filing. Filings will be accepted during the filing period for the following offices to be elected on

November 3, 2026:

 

City Council (two positions – four-year term)

City Council – Special Election for Term Expiring January 1, 2029 (1 position – three-year term)

 

To be eligible,

-Individuals must be 21 years of age or older upon taking office, eligible to vote in the State of Minnesota,

-A resident of the City of Hackensack for at least 30 days before the general election.

 

Candidates must file at the Office of the Hackensack City Clerk, located at Hackensack City Hall, 208 1st Street N, P.O. Box 490, Hackensack, MN 56452. Candidates must complete an affidavit of candidacy and pay a $2.00 filing fee at the time of filing.

 

*Candidates who will be absent from the state during the filing period may arrange to file in person with the Clerk seven days prior to departure by giving a written affidavit of reasons for absence and completing all other filing requirements.

 

**NEW THIS YEAR:

In accordance with Minnesota State Statute, candidates at the time of filing must present a valid ID photo with current name and address OR present a photo ID (can be expired) and one approved document with current name and address.

Approved documents with current name and address include:

- Bill, account, or start of service statement due/dated within 30 days of the beginning of the candidate filing period, such as:

- Phone, TV, or internet

- Solid waste, sewer, electric, gas, or water

- Banking or credit card

- Rent or mortgage

- Residential lease or rent agreement valid through Election Day

- Current student fee statement
